In April, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services announced staffing cuts that will reduce the NIOSH workforce from approximately 1,400 full- and part-time employees to fewer than 150. The cuts, which go into effect June 1, will end most agency programs and research activities. Information from several sources about the value of NIOSH research is presented below.
